Mon. 02/18/08 Hope you had a great weekend. Thank you to all the STAR listeners that came on our black history tour of Orlando over the weekend...Barry Whites as usual your history rendition was fabulous, thank you to Kenneth Pratt and Derrick Gatlin of the Wells Built Museum for being such gracious hosts and to Grant Transportation for always being on time and getting us around safely...Orlando is full of history, did you know we have over 90 streets named after African Americans? That's more than any other city in the country - next week we're off to Sanford for their rich history.
Tuesday is a big day at the Orange County Commissioners chambers - that's the day they'll vote on whether Evans gets a new school or not and just where it will be. If you note history, this is the same dilemma Jones faced back in the day, moving from what's now the Callahan Center to Rio Grande. Again, there were others who just didn't want to see Black people in their midst...Evans has been in the same location for atleast 50 years, that school has been overlooked and students are now opting to go elsewhere...So please find out more and support the move for Evans, the meeting's at 2pm. The commissioners offices are on Rosalind and Jackson
