STAR 94.5 continues to recognize Black HIV and AIDS awareness - by congratulating all 3 Unsung Heroes honored by the National Black Alcoholism and Addictions Council this past weekend. Dyana Williams, Karen Wint and Bakari Burns for their undying support of AIDS education in our community and their transparency in sharing the devastation of this disease. Congratulations to you all and may God richly bless you in your endeavors. If you didn't get tested at all - there are still opportunities to go to your local health department. Dr. Sherin said it at Saturday's event - AIDS is attacking the black community disproportionately - we at least need to learn our own status...what are you waiting for?

Tomorrow night, at 6pm - you are invited to attend a Town Hall meeting - held jointly by State Senator Siplin, State Representative Geraldine Thompson, Commissioners Lynum and Ings, the NAACP and Circle of Friends...it's a chance to hear the upcoming legislative agenda on education, homeownership, business contracting, health care and more. There are other invited guests to speak as well - it all takes place at the Smith Center on Bruton Blvd...hope to see you there...STAR Cares about our community...

HIV and AIDS Awareness continues today at noon at the Volusia County Health Department with a Lunch and Learn on the Silence is Death series.

FCAT Testing begins today with the writing portion for grades 4, 8 and 10 – hopefully all kids left this morning after a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast...Let them think and we'll just pray...

Tonight at 6 the Black Partnership in conjunction with the NAACP, the Florida Black Pages and Circle of Friends will host a panel of black politicians and community leaders at a Town Hall meeting. The forum will be on the upcoming legislative session covering our housing and economic needs, education, business contracting, health care and more...Please plan to attend – it's at the Smith Center off of LB Mc Leod.

And Wednesday night at 6 - St. Mark AME on Bruton Boulevard will honor Black History month with a two part town hall meeting as well. Tonight at 6 – St. Mark AME invites you to a night of Ebony Excellance – in honor of Black History Month, it's a town hall meeting to discuss the role of the black church in our community...the panel consists of community leaders, St. Mark members and you are certainly invited.

Commissioner Sam Ings and Bishop Ed Thomas of El Bethel Temple invite you to their Black History Celebration Saturday from 2 to 5 at the Smith Center. It will be informational and entertaining with local talent performing and community organizations sharing their info. There will also be a career expo for young people.

This Saturday is "Save our Babies Day" – and the Black Infant Health Practice Initiative invites you to hear Karen Purnell with Florida Hospital speak at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Eatonville at 9am. Happy Valentine's Day, if you're not too busy with your sweetheart there are some things happening in our community – you'll need to know about....Tonite at 7 – The Jones Hi – Tigers play Mt. Dora in the 1st round of the regional finals. Hope you'll come out and support the team as they go for a state title.... Tomorrow nite at 8 Johnson's Diner on W. Church street is having a free arts fest event – featuring live jazz and poetry.... Today marks the last day of the writing portion of FCAT exams- give kids a moment to debrief and do something fun this weekend.

This morning at 11, PAST, Inc. the Association to Preserve African American Society, History and Tradition will have their 2008 Trailblazers luncheon at the Orlando Marriott...they will recognize 6 individuals who worked to break down barriers in our city.

Celebrate Black History tomorrow at the Smith Center from 2pm to 5pm with a career expo for teens and a community talen presentation...

Sunday, you're invited to see Pinder's Kids at Jones High School auditiorium. Remember this is the wonderful play depicting the life of our very own Father Nelson W. Pinder.
