  • In China an estimated 15,000 people have been killed and nearly 26,000 people are buried in collapsed buildings from Monday's powerful earthquake. Helicopters are able to drop aid to remote areas affected.
  • When John Edwards left the presidential race 4 months ago, both Senators Clinton and Obama courted his support. He remained quiet up until yesterday when he declared his support for Barack Obama. It's a move he hopes will solidify support for the party's likely candidate.
  • Investigators say the man they have in custody for starting brush fires in Palm Bay that has burned thousands of acres and destroyed several homes there, has a history of arrests, but arson is NOT one of them. However, authorities have 31 year old Brian Crowder in custody and continue to question him about the fires.

  • Ocoee police are continuing their investigation into the deaths of 2 women found in a home on Lett Lane. They got an early morning call Tuesday and responded. The victim's names so far have not been released
  • Next time a telemarketer calls your home it could be one of the teens from the rehabilitation program, Teen Challenge. That might not have been a problem, except Channel 9 discovered that many of the teens on the phones had been convicted of credit card and bank fraud. And that becomes a problem when they're handling sensitive info – like your credit card information. That particular phone room has since been shut down.   • Police officers from Ocoee, Orlando and Orange County were on hand to help business owners in the Pine Hills area shopping center called "Chinatown," learn how to stay safe by giving tips on how to secure a/c units against copper theft, move signage for more visibility and how to reduce trespassing.   • Early morning commuters on the west side of 50 may smell a lot of smoke. It's from a brush fire burning in Bithlo. Orange County Rescue workers have things under control and say the fire is slow moving and that no structures are in danger.
  • Wish we could say the same thing for Brevard, Volusia and Palm Bay. The weatherman does say we may have a sprinkle or two by this weekend but not much else is in sight. Meanwhile, fires are basically controlled now; collectively more than 10,000 acres have burned. Authorities do have one man they're questioning – 31 year old Brian Crowder, a drug addict and convicted felon who has admitted to starting the fire.
  • Florida is 4th in the nation in terms of foreclosure. Prevention and predatory lending workshops are being sponsored by State Senator Gary Siplin several city commissioners as well as the City of Orlando's Housing Department. The next one is this Saturday 9am at the Rosemont Community Center.
