Florida revenue officials have a new weapon in their fight against dead beat parents as they try to collect child support payments.

Governor Jeb Bush and the Florida Cabinet approved a 28 million dollar consulting contract Tuesday.

State revenue officials say the contract promises to bring in a hundred times that amount in additional child support collections over a 10 year period.

The deal is a 3 year contract with New York-based Deloitte Consulting to upgrade its child support collection system.

Florida presently ranks at the midpoint nationally in child support collections.

It collects just over 52 percent of support due the 901 thousand children in programs administered by the state.

Department of Revenue executive director Jim Zingale predicts Florida would soon move to the forefront of the group once the system is in place in two more years.

Zingale says over ten years, the system will generate an additional 2.9 billion dollars in child support collections.
