Parents can now get their first ever look at an actual FCAT test. While samples have been available for years, the state has finally given in and released what 10th graders have to pass in order to graduate.

The reading section asks questions which can be answered if the student is paying attention and is learning in school says Education Commissioner John Winn.

"There is no way to teach to the reading test, except have students read, and teach them comprehension, vocabulary and all the things that are necessary to put together to be a good independent reader."

Winn says the release of the test will ease parents fears about the FCAT.

Updated Info

Parents eager to look up their childrens' FCAT scores should type carefully when trying to access the state's Web Site. The FL Department of Education issued a warning, stating that there is an "imposter" site aiming to redirect parents away form the Education Department and to a site with "advertisements and paid links."

The correct site is www.fcatparentnetwork.com. The first batch of 2007 FCAT scores have already been released. Parents should be able to access complete scores by the end of the week.
