4500 Letters Collected at Timber Creek High School Rally

The letter writing rally against proposed budget cuts to Florida public schools garnered 4500 letters signed by parents, educators and community members today. The letters will be mailed to Governor Crist and the Florida State Legislature, accompanied by many drawings and letters from school children, The event, organized by the PTAs and Student Advisory Councils from District 2 in Orange County, held at Timber Creek High School between 9am-2pm today, is the start of a grassroots campaign to let our elected officials in Tallahassee know that the community opposes the $125 million in cuts that Orange County Public Schools is facing.
Organizer Paula Bradshaw said, "This event was a huge success due to the outpouring of support and cooperation from the schools, parents and community members, especially District 2 School Board Member Daryl Flynn, District 4 Commissioner Bill Segal, and District 2 Superintendent Dr. John Edwards, all of whom came down today to assist in the effort. We hope our elected officials in Tallahassee hear this strong collective voice and respond quickly and effectively to Save Our Schools."
